Assam Police Sub-Inspector shoots himself dead in Jorhat
Guwahati: A sub-inspector of Assam Police posted in the Jorhat district of the state allegedly shot himself dead at the staff quarters on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Bhupen Dihingia. He was the Chelenghat police station’s officer in charge.
According to reports, the incident occurred today after lunch when he returned to his lodgings.
Officials said that Dihingia committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with his service handgun.
He was reportedly suffering from underlying health concerns that caused him to be unhappy.
A police team reached the spot of the incident to find the body of the sub-inspector with a gunshot wound on his head.
Dihingia’s body had an entry hole on the left temporal region and an exit wound above the right ear, according to an official.
However, the cause behind the extreme step is not known yet. Police have also been unable to locate any messages left by the deceased.
It may be noted that Dihingia was a resident of Lilabari in the Lakhimpur district of Assam. He had joined as the officer-in-charge of the Chelenghat police station just two days prior to the incident.
