Assam Police to establish four cyber police stations in Assam

Guwahati, 21 June: Assam Police to set up four cyber police stations to tackle cybercrime within the state after an increase in cybercrime incidents.

These cyber police stations will be established in accordance with a notification issued by the Home and Political Department of the Assam Government to efficiently address and prevent cybercrime-related offences committed in violation of the Information Technology Act and other applicable legislation.

Guwahati CID headquarters and the office of the City Police Commissioner would each house two of these cyber police stations. The announcement states that a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) will be in charge of managing both of these Guwahati stations.

Within its purview, the Guwahati Police Commissionerate’s Cyber Police Station would function autonomously. The proposed CID Cyber Police Station will also have authority over the entirety of Assam, with the exception of the regions under the control of the Police Commissionerate in Guwahati.

In Silchar and Dibrugarh, there will be one cyber police Out Post each.

Meanwhile, officers at the OC level will be in charge of managing these cyber police stations in Silchar and Dibrugarh. The districts of Sadiya Police, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji which are all under the general control of the CID Cyber Police Station would be under the jurisdiction of the Dibrugarh Cyber Police Outpost.

The outpost in Dibrugarh will be erected on the premises of the Dibrugarh Sadar Police station, according to Shwetank Mishra, SP, Dibrugarh.

While the Silchar Cyber Police Outpost will fall under the general purview of the CID Cyber Police Station it will have jurisdiction over the districts of Silchar, Hailakandi, Karimganj and Dima Hasao.
