Assam: Prominent Youths Arrested in Sribhumi for Purchasing Stolen Electronics
Assam: Seven young individuals from well-known families in Sribhumi were arrested for allegedly purchasing stolen electronics at discounted prices, sparking widespread debate in the local community.
The items, including refrigerators, televisions, inverters, and washing machines, were reportedly stolen by Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Sudipta Das, employees at the “Home Fashion” electronics store on Kalibari Road. Police revealed that the duo had been selling the goods at heavily reduced rates, attracting buyers who overlooked the legality of the transactions.
Following complaints from the store owner, law enforcement launched a swift investigation, leading to the arrests of both the employees and the seven buyers. The accused were presented in court, where the judge ordered them to be remanded to jail, emphasizing the gravity of supporting and benefiting from illegal activities.
This case has ignited concerns over ethical consumer behavior and the role of buyers in fueling thefts. Local leaders have called on citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious deals to authorities to curb such crimes.
