Assam Rifles Seize Foreign Cigarettes In Mizoram

Guwahati: The Serchhip Battalion of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles reportedly seized 77 Cases of cigarettes with a foreign origin worth Rs. 1.155 Crore on Wednesday near Melbuk Xg at Zokhawthar, according to an official statement.

Based on specific intelligence, the operation was carried out by a team comprised of the Assam Rifles and the Customs Department, led by LCS Zokhawthar (East).

The officials were informed that the estimated cost of the recovered foreign-origin cigarettes is 1.155 crore.

The seized consignment was handed over to Customs Department, LCS Zokhawthar on Wednesday for further legal proceedings, the statement said.

The ongoing smuggling of illegal items is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram.

Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’, have successfully launched such operations against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, the official statement read.
