Assam: Road Accident on National Highway 27 Sparks Public Outcry

Guwahati, August 17, 2024 — A tragic accident on National Highway 27 in Gossaigaon has resulted in severe injuries to the driver and handyman of a 20-wheeler truck, registration number WB65 D-4400, which was traveling from Meghalaya to Siliguri. The collision, which occurred today, has drawn significant public outrage due to allegations that excessive speed was a contributing factor.

The truck’s driver and handyman, both identified as Kothampi Prana Raksha, were critically injured and transported to the Kachugaon Primary Health Centre for emergency treatment. This incident follows a recent fatal accident in Kachugaon where five young passengers lost their lives in a similar crash involving a speeding truck.

Local residents have expressed growing frustration over the lack of action by the police and local administration in addressing the dangers posed by speeding trucks on this section of NH-27. The community’s concerns continue to escalate as hazardous driving conditions persist, putting travelers’ lives at risk.
