Assam Scripts History Again By Registering Name in Guinness Book of World Records

Guwahati: Assam script history by entering it’s name into the Guinness Book of World Records with more than 42 lakh essays written on Lachit Borphukan.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma received the Certificate of Record from Guinness World Records Limited, UK today at noon, according to officials.

Himanta Biswa Sarma urged the people of Assam to light earthen lamps at home on November 24 to remark the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan, a war hero from the 17th century.

Lachit Borphukan was crucial in the 1671 “Battle of Saraighat” on the Brahmaputra which stopped a long-term attempt by the Mughal forces which was led by Raja Ramsingh to recapture Assam.

To commemorate the 400th anniversary of the great Ahom army general’s birth, the Assam government has also released a mobile app and a web portal.

According to officials, the portal and mobile application were developed so that people in Assam and outside the state, including from other countries could express their gratitude for Lachit Barphukan through essays and write-ups.
