Assam: Section 144 imposed in Tinsukia district
Guwahati: The Tinsukia District Magistrate imposed Section 144 in the district vide an official notification ahead of the municipal elections in Assam on Thursday.
”In order to maintain law and order of the district during election period and conduct of free and fair election, it has become necessary to impose some restrictions in the entire Tinsukia district,” the order read.
“It is necessary and expedient to issue prohibitory order U/S 144 Cr.P.C with a view to maintain public peace, security and tranquility within the district,” it added.
Since the administration enforced 144, any gathering of five or more people requiring permission from the competent authority or district administration has been prohibited.
Meetings or gatherings in any public location without prior permission from the responsible authority or district administration are prohibited.
According to the orders, carrying out a procession in any form, affixing posters, using loudspeakers, carrying any lethal weapon, using torchlights such as Mashal, forcible collection or donation, shouting provocative slogans, or any other activity that will cause communal tension, and bursting crackers are all prohibited.
