Assam Security Forces on High Alert Amid Independence Day Threats from Insurgents

Guwahati, 11th August: As India prepares to celebrate Independence Day, security forces in Assam are on high alert following credible intelligence reports suggesting a potential threat from insurgent groups. According to police sources, approximately seven members of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) have reportedly crossed into Assam from Myanmar, with plans to disrupt the upcoming festivities.

In response to the threat, security forces, including Assam Police and Assam Rifles, have intensified anti-insurgency operations in the dense forests along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. These operations aim to prevent any potential attacks and ensure that Independence Day celebrations proceed safely.

Additionally, reports have emerged of extortion demands targeting businessmen in Upper Assam, allegedly made by ULFA members. These demands have increased the urgency of the ongoing operations, as authorities work to neutralize any threats posed by the insurgent group.

Security measures have been significantly tightened across the region, with a focus on preventing insurgent activities and ensuring the safety of civilians during the Independence Day celebrations.
