Assam Storm Claims 4 Lives, Leaves Trail of Destruction

Guwahati, 1st April: A powerful storm swept through Assam on March 31 leaving devastation in its wake and claiming the lives of four individuals in different parts of the state.

Reports indicate that Sakhi Begum Laskar lost her life in Cachar due to the storm, while 17-year-old Pintu Chauhan succumbed to lightning in West Karbi Anglong. Additionally, a 46-year-old man named Ruparam Basumatary from Udalguri fell victim to lightning, and tragically, a 4-year-old child perished in Mankachar after a boat capsized.

The storm wreaked havoc across several areas, destroying buildings, houses, uprooting trees, and causing damage to electrical posts.

Expressing condolences and concern, Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to Twitter to convey his grief over the devastating impacts of the storms in Assam, Manipur, and West Bengal. He assured comprehensive assistance to mitigate the aftermath of the calamity, pledging support for the affected regions.
