Assam Tightens Security Amid ULFA-I Threat Ahead of Independence Day

Guwahati, 11th August: In response to a recent threat from the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), Assam has intensified security measures across the state. The militant group issued a warning urging residents to refrain from participating in the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

The threat, conveyed through an email, announced a state-wide bandh starting at midnight on August 15 and lasting until 6 PM that evening. The bandh is expected to impact most activities; however, the group has specified that emergency services, media operations, and religious events will not be affected by the strike.

Authorities in Assam have heightened their alert level, implementing extensive security protocols to safeguard the public during the national holiday. These measures are aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the people, despite the ongoing threat from the insurgent group.
