Assam: Tourists Narrowly Escape Rhino Charge in Manas National Park

Guwahati, 7th March: A group of tourists from West Bengal had a harrowing experience when their safari jeep was charged by an adult rhinoceros in Manas National Park. The incident occurred on March 7 in the Bahbari range of the park, where the rhino pursued the jeep for over a kilometer before the driver successfully evaded the animal.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident underscores the potential risks associated with wildlife encounters and the importance of adhering to park regulations. Reports suggest that the tourists were on a routine safari when the rhino unexpectedly charged towards their vehicle. The driver’s quick response in accelerating the jeep prevented any harm to the occupants.

This incident is not an isolated one in Manas National Park, as there have been previous instances of rhinos approaching or chasing safari vehicles. These occurrences raise concerns about park management practices and tourist behavior, which may contribute to such encounters.

The recent incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible wildlife viewing and the need to respect the natural habitat of these animals. By following safety guidelines and showing consideration for wildlife, tourists and park authorities can collaborate to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
