Northeast Desk, 31st July: Tragedy strikes as another youth from Assam meets a tragic fate outside his home state, this time in Meghalaya.
The victim, identified as Rafiqul Islam, hails from Kumguri village in the Tulsibeel area of Kokrajhar district in Assam. He had ventured into neighboring Meghalaya for work purposes, accompanied by his father-in-law, to the Ri Bhoi district.
Disturbingly, on Sunday evening, misfortune befell Rafiqul when he was attacked by unidentified miscreants while his father-in-law had gone shopping. The horrifying incident took place in a locality under Umiam Police Station.
According to sources, the miscreants brutally assaulted Rafiqul with sharp weapons, inflicting grievous injuries on his head and body. They callously dumped his lifeless body afterward.
Locals found Rafiqul in an unconscious state and swiftly rushed him to a nearby hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries before medical aid could be administered.
The heart-wrenching incident shocked the community, and an FIR has been lodged at Umiam Police Station to investigate the appalling attack.
Assam mourns the loss of yet another promising young life, and authorities are urged to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.
