Assam Youth Congress demands repair of roads in Madanpur Toll Gate; stages protest

Guwahati, 24th June: Above two thousand members of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress today staged a demonstration against toll fee hike at Madanpur Toll Gate near Guwahati.

The members gathered in front of the Madanpur Toll Gate and raised slogans against the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) seeking immediate repair of dilapidated roads.

Led by Assam Pradesh Youth Congress president Zubair Anam, the protestors demanded immediate repair of the roads.

Moreover, the protestors have expressed their frustration over the deteriorating condition and the government’s failure to address them despite raising toll taxes.

However, protest resulted in vehicles being stranded for long distances on both sides of the road.

Notably, the Youth Congress have warned that if their demand is not met soon, they would be forced to take to the streets and stage a massive demonstration against NHAI, central government and the state government.

It needs to mention that Fees in as many as seven toll gates in Assam were hiked by 10% from midnight of March 31.

However, Madanpur Toll Gate has hiked its fees from Rs 125 to Rs 130 for cars, jeeps, vans, and light motor vehicles while the toll rate for light good vehicles, minibus and light commercial vehicles has been increased from Rs 205 to Rs 210. The toll rate for 2-axles trucks and buses was Increase from Rs 420 to Rs 440 for a single journey.
