Guwahati, 14th August: In a shocking incident, a man named Bopai Gogoi was reportedly murdered in Margherita, with his wife Anu Gogoi and daughter Priyanka Gogoi accused of the crime. The Margherita police detained the two women and sent them to jail custody today following their arrest.
The incident occurred on the night of August 12 in Margherita town under the Margherita police station area. According to family members, a violent altercation took place at Bopai Gogoi’s residence. After the fight, Anu and Priyanka took Bopai to Dibrugarh in an ambulance, informing other relatives that he had died on the way to the hospital.
Following Bopai’s post-mortem in Dibrugarh and his cremation, Anu and Priyanka went into hiding, arousing the suspicions of other family members. A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at Margherita police station, leading to the arrest of the duo from Khowang.
After the arrest, local women and the deceased’s family members gathered at the police station, demanding that the accused be handed over to them. The police, however, conducted a medical examination of Anu and Priyanka at Margherita Civil Hospital before producing them in a judicial court. They were subsequently sent to a jail in Tinsukia.
Allegations have emerged that Anu Gogoi had previously been involved in similar actions driven by a desire for land and property, leading family members to believe she conspired with her daughter to commit this heinous act. The investigation is ongoing as the police look into these serious accusations.
