Award of Gallantry Medals / Service Medals on Republic Day

Guwahati: The Ministry of Home Affairs announced on the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day that 939 police officers had been given gallantry or service medals.

189 people will be awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry, 88 will be awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, and 662 will receive the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, among the 939 honours announced on Republic Day 2022.

134 servicemen are being awarded for their valorous actions in the Jammu and Kashmir region, out of a total of 189 Gallantry Awards. 47 personnel for gallantry in areas afflicted by the Left Wing Extremists, and 1 personnel for gallantry in the North-East Region.

115 members of the J&K Police Force, 30 members of the CRPF, 3 members of the ITBP, 2 members of the BSF, 3 members of the Sashastra Seema Bal, 10 members of the Chhattisgarh Police Force, 9 members of the Odisha Police Force, and 7 members of the Maharashtra Police Force are among those receiving Gallantry Awards, with the rest coming from other States and UTs.

On the occasion of Republic Day 2022, the Fire Service Medals were also presented to 42 personnel. For their respective acts of heroism and gallantry, the President’s Fire Service Medal for Gallantry is bestowed to one person and the Fire Service Medal for Gallantry is awarded to two people. 9 people will get the President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service, while 30 people will receive the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service.

It may be mentioned that around 25 personnel or volunteers have also been awarded Home Guard & Civil Defence Medals on the occasion of Republic Day 2022.
