Bajaj Finance Area Manager Dies by Suicide Amid Allegations of Workplace Harassment
National Desk, 1st October: In a tragic incident that has raised serious concerns about workplace stress, Tarun Saxena, a 42-year-old area manager at Bajaj Finance, reportedly died by suicide after allegedly facing intense harassment and pressure from his superiors. Saxena was found dead in his residence early this morning, having taken his own life, reportedly driven to this extreme action by work-related stress.
A suicide note recovered from the scene indicates that Saxena accused his seniors of relentlessly pressuring him to meet high recovery targets over the past two months, threatening salary deductions for any shortfalls. The mounting stress he experienced is believed to have contributed significantly to his decision.
Saxena’s lifeless body was discovered by the family’s housekeeper, who promptly alerted Tarun’s brother, a nearby resident. Upon arrival, the brother was able to unlock the door to the room where Tarun had locked his wife and two children before taking his life. Fortunately, the family was safely removed from the locked room shortly after.
Authorities arrived quickly at the scene, taking custody of the body and initiating post-mortem procedures. Superintendent of Police Gyanendra Kumar confirmed the recovery of the suicide note, where Saxena directly blamed his superiors for the relentless harassment he faced regarding unachieved targets. “If a formal complaint is filed by the family, further legal action will follow,” Kumar stated.
Family members have expressed deep anguish over Tarun’s death, alleging that excessive pressure from Bajaj Finance officials played a significant role in his tragic decision. Gaurav Saxena, Tarun’s cousin, recounted a recent conference call Tarun had with his seniors, Vaibhav Saxena and Prabhakar Mishra, from the company’s Bhopal office. “They berated him for not meeting his collection targets, which led to salary cuts. This constant pressure was too much for him to bear,” Gaurav revealed.
Tarun leaves behind his father, a retired clerk, his wife, and two young children. Despite the serious allegations of workplace harassment, Bajaj Finance has yet to issue a statement regarding the matter. The family is now seeking justice, and an investigation is expected to follow based on their formal complaint.
This case has sparked a wider discussion about workplace stress, particularly in industries that impose heavy performance demands on their employees, highlighting the urgent need for addressing mental health and well-being in the workplace.
