BJP Announces First List of Candidates In Tripura Polls

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its initial list of 48 candidates for the Tripura assembly elections on Saturday. According to the party, Tripura’s chief minister Dr. Manik Saha would run from the Town Bordowali district.

In a statement, the BJP also named its candidates for 48 of the 60 seats up for election in Tripura.

The names of twelve applicants will be annouched soon.

Notably, BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda presided over the Bharatiya Janata Party Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting on January 27.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and other members of the CEC were present at the meeting.

As a result, the CEC has approved the candidates’ names for Tripura’s forthcoming assembly elections in 2023.

The CPI(M) ruled Tripura for 20 years before the BJP first assumed power as the state’s head of state in 2018.

Elections for the 60-member Tripura assembly are scheduled for February 16.

Nominations must be submitted by January 30. The vote tally will be discussed on March 2.
