Guwahati: The police recovered the victim’s body in Baihata Chariali of Assam which is on the outskirts of Guwahati on Friday. The victim was allegedly killed by accused Hitesh Das.

The body was reportedly found at Kamalpur as a result of an operation by the Dispur Police in Guwahati.

Officials informed that the mortal remains were recovered from the wilderness along the national highway-31 at Kamalpur.

The victim was identified by officials as Premnath Bhuyan. Police were able to find the body based on Hitesh Das’ confession, who had already been arrested in connection with the murder.

It should be mentioned that a Das is suspected of discretely transporting the dead body from Guwahati to the Kamalpur area of the city. The incident came to light on December 29.

The Uber driver himself confirmed this after being threatened with severe consequences and held at gunpoint if he told the authorities about the incident.

He claimed that the criminal had reserved the cab over the phone from the Rukminigaon area and stuffed a suspicious-looking luggage into the trunk.

The criminal who was later identified as Hitesh Das requested that the cab driver take him to Kamalpur where he abandoned the luggage deep inside the bush.

Upon enquiring about the contents of the bag, the accused claimed that the body of the man he had just shot was inside. He also threatened the driver to not spill the beans.

The driver was forced to comply and delivered him to the city. But shortly thereafter, he made it to the Dispur police station and told the officers what had happened.

The accused was then located by the police, who then arrested him. It was learned that Das who is from Nilpur in the Nalbari district, is a professional auto rickshaw driver.
