BRO Races Against Time to Restore Vital Sikkim Road Link
Gangtok, Sikkim: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is working tirelessly to restore critical road connectivity in Sikkim, particularly the Gangtok-Chungthang road, which was severely damaged by natural calamities.
Despite facing harsh weather conditions and challenging terrain, the BRO has accelerated repair work on an eight-kilometer stretch between Naga and Theng. The dedicated workforce is committed to rebuilding the damaged infrastructure and restoring essential connectivity.
The road was ravaged by a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in October 2023, followed by a devastating cloudburst in June 2024. The restoration of this vital link is crucial for improving accessibility to North Sikkim and boosting the region’s tourism potential.
In addition to the Gangtok-Chungthang road, the BRO is also prioritizing critical surfacing work on the Kalep-Giagong road, a high-altitude route leading to the revered Gurudongmar Lake near the India-China border.
