Bus fares likely to increase in Assam, AAMTA demands 70% hike

Guwahati: All- The Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) filed a memorandum to the Government of Assam’s Transport Commissioner on Thursday, requesting a 70% hike in passenger vehicle fare in the state.

According to the All-Assam Motor Transport Association, the transportation industry is facing major setbacks as a result of rising petrol and diesel prices in the country and state, as well as a 15% increase in toll rates starting April 1, 2022.

Furthermore, the sector in Assam has been seriously harmed by the rise in prices of car tyres, batteries, and replacement parts, among other things. As a result, AAMTA indicated in a statement that the ailing transportation business, which offers 35 percent tax cuts in the state exchequer, must take actions to address the crisis situation.

It may be mentioned that in the memorandum, AAMTA has further reminded that the government had issued a 25% fare hike notice in the year 2019.
