Cattle Smuggling Bid Busted By Assam Police

Guwahati: Assam police rescued at least 28 cattle heads from a 12-wheeler vehicle at Jorabat intersection under Basistha PS in the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD).

According to reports, the accused were attempting to smuggle cattle skulls taken from Bezera, Kamrup into Byrnihat. And in connection to the incident a person was arrested from the Sipajhar region.

Reportedly, the arrestee has been identified as Md Rajmul Ali.

“An EGPD team from Jorabat OP of Basistha PS intercepted a 12-wheeler truck (AS01 JC 4322) at Jorabat junction tonight, when it was trying to smuggle 28 cattle into Byrnihat, brought from Bezera, Kamrup. One Md Rajmul Ali of Sipajhar was arrested. Legal action has been initiated,” a tweet from Guwahati Police read.

The Assam Police stopped another attempt at smuggling earlier this month and removed 34 cattle heads from a bus in the Nagaon district.

Following intelligence that there was animal trafficking in the Kaliabor area, the police established a Naka checkpoint. Police pulled over a car in the Missa area, close to Kaliabor and found 34 cattle heads inside. Nevertheless, when they saw the police squad arrive the driver and others left the area.
