CDS Chopper Crash: IAF gives detailed presentation to Rajnath Singh
Guwahati: Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief VR Chaudhary met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and gave him a detailed presentation on the chopper crash investigation report that resulted in the death of Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat.
A military helicopter crashed near the Nilgiri highlands in Tamil Nadu on December 8, 2021, killing 14 people, including Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife, and other military personnel.
Air Chief Marshal Chaudhary made the presentation at the Defence Minister’s official house. Following the crash, a tri-service investigation into the cause of the accident was ordered.
Inclement weather is thought to have rendered the MI-17v5 pilot disoriented, causing him to crash into terrain. Controlled Flight Into Terrain, or CFIT, is the term for this.
According to reports, the investigation ruled out any technical or mechanical flaws. The helicopter was a Russian Mi-17V5 helicopter, which is known for its dependability and safety. The crew was led by group captain Varun Singh, an Indian Air Force pilot with a lot of expertise.
Air Marshal Manvendra Singh, India’s top chopper pilot, oversaw the tri-service investigation. He previously held the position of director-general of inspection and aviation safety. The tri-services investigation report revealed the causes of the disaster and gave suggestions for future VIP chopper operations.
