Centre Approves ₹200 Crore for Development of Assam’s Iconic Tourist Sites
Assam: The Central Government has approved close to ₹200 crore for the development of two iconic tourist sites in Assam—Rang Ghar in Sivasagar and the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden in Guwahati—under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme.
This landmark approval is aimed at elevating these sites to global standards and boosting Assam’s tourism sector.
The Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden has been allocated ₹97.12 crore, while ₹94.76 crore will go toward the beautification and development of the historic Rang Ghar, an architectural marvel of the Ahom era.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this initiative. In a statement on his official X handle, Sarma wrote, “Heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving close to ₹200 cr to develop Assam’s two iconic tourist sites—Rang Ghar and State Zoo under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment.”
The development of these iconic sites is expected to significantly enhance Assam’s tourism potential, drawing both national and international visitors while preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage and biodiversity.
