CEO of Dhubri Zilla Parishad Suspended After Bribery Arrest
Guwahati, 1st August: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dhubri Zilla Parishad, Biswajit Goswami, found himself in the midst of a bribery scandal leading to his suspension. Reports emerged on Tuesday that the Assam Government took the decision to suspend him following his arrest under bribery charges.
Biswajit Goswami’s arrest took place on July 21, alongside his Assistant District Programme Manager (ADPM), Mrinal Kanti Sarkar. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption took action after Mrinal Kanti Sarkar was caught accepting a demanded amount of Rs. 30,000 from members of the parishad, allegedly under the instructions of the CEO.
The anti-corruption cell conducted an operation at Biswajit Goswami’s residence later in the night, leading to the staggering discovery of over Rs. 2 crores in unaccounted cash.
Further inquiry led the vigilance cell to search the CEO’s wife’s home in Bongaigaon, where they discovered a large sum of money worth Rs. 2,32,85,300.
Subsequently, both the CEO and the ADPM were remanded in police custody as the investigation unfolds.
This scandal has raised serious concerns about corruption within the administration and calls for a thorough investigation to hold those involved accountable. The suspension of Biswajit Goswami reflects the government’s commitment to addressing corruption and maintaining transparency in governance.
As the case progresses, the public remains vigilant, expecting swift and impartial actions to ensure justice prevails.
