Chaos at Basistha Temple as Miscreants Misuse Bol-Bom Devotion
Guwahati, 7th August: The premises of Basistha temple in Guwahati were marred by chaos on Monday as a group of young men, claiming to be Bol-Bom devotees, caused havoc in the name of worshipping Lord Shiva.
Entering the temple after consuming liquor, ganja, and drugs, the men behaved indecently and unruly. Shockingly, they even handed drug containers to young children in the temple premises.
Bol Bom is a religious practice where water is carried from the river and offered to Lord Shiva at the temple, typically done on Mondays during the month of Shravan. However, some exploit this sacred tradition to indulge in intoxication and hooliganism under the guise of devotion.
The temple authorities and genuine devotees were appalled and tried to stop the miscreants, but they faced verbal and physical abuse in response.
Criticism is directed at the administration for its lack of attention and security arrangements at the temple. Devotees demand stringent action against the offenders and call for measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The public is also urged to respect religious sentiments and uphold norms of decency and discipline.
