Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate 11 projects worth over Rs 31,400 crores to the nation and lay the foundation stones for them at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai of Tamil Nadu on Thursday.

He will also dedicate five projects totalling over Rs 2,900 crores to the nation.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister will dedicate 1,152 houses in Chennai built under the Light House Project.

The project was built at a cost of Rs 116 crores under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban. As per a press release, “It uses the best of new-age global technologies, materials and processes in the construction sector for the first time in the country at such a large scale. This project makes use of the Precast Concrete Construction System as used in US and Finland.”

PM Modi announced the Lighthouse projects on January 1, 2021, with the goal of leveraging new technology to finish housing projects faster while also making them more robust. Since then, he’s been checking in on the project on a regular basis, including through drone-based monitoring. The project was completed in a timely manner and will be beneficial to the needy.

PM Modi’s visit to Chennai will be his first since the DMK took power in the state last year.

Security has been beefed up in Chennai ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival. The Greater Chennai Police Department said in a statement that they have put in place a five-tier security system and that at least 22,000 police officers would be deployed to ensure that no adverse incidents occur during the event.
