Chennai: Power supply resumed after night long disruption

Guwahati: Power supply in Chennai resumed on Tuesday after night long disruption. The power supply was disrupted due to sudden heavy rains and gusty winds in the suburban sections of Chennai on Monday.

DRM Chennai tweeted,“We have restored the power supply and resolved the signalling issues as our officers worked through the night. Our General Manager (GM), B.G.Mallya was monitoring the situation through the night despite being on an official tour to Salem (Tamil Nadu), while the DRM monitored the situation from the control office.”

The DRM had previously stated in a morning tweet that weather conditions in the city had affected power supply to their Overhead Equipment (OHE) and minor signalling problems in all suburban portions, causing delays in suburban services.

“We apologise for the early morning delays on long-distance trains caused by the foregoing factors, but we have done our utmost to minimise your annoyance.” Despite our best efforts, we often appear powerless in the face of nature’s forces,” they explained.

It may be mentioned that earlier on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted isolated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, while also issuing severe warnings associated with Cyclone Asani.
