Chirang: Bengtol OC Held For Negligence To Duty

Guwahati: In a significant development in alleged gang rape case at Bengtol, the officer in charge (OC) of Bengtol Police Outpost in Chirang district of Assam has been arrested on Saturday.

Following the revelation that he had sided with the accused in a gang rape case, he was suspended last night.

The tainted cop was identified as Afzal Hussain. He has been accused of being careless in the investigation of a sexual abuse case that was reported by a victim woman.

A thorough investigation has been launched into the situation after the woman courted the Chirang SP. Three other people have been arrested in relation to the incident.

Three people were arrested by Chirang Police earlier today in relation to the alleged gang rape case at Bengtol.

The police arrested Gulzar Hussain, Pabitra Rai and Ganesh Rai in the alleged sexual assault and abuse of a woman.

According to reports, the victim has leveled accusations against a total of seven persons.

Three of the accused were taken into custody today, four others remain absconding, according to the police.

It should be noted that the officer in charge of the Bengtol Police Outpost in the Chirang district of Assam was fired on Friday after it was claimed he supported the perpetrators of the gang rape.

According to reports, a woman reached to the police station to report that she had been the victim of sexual assault and abuse.

However, instead of investigating her complaints, the Bengtol OC reportedly mocked her and sided with the accused that were named by the victim.

The cop in question was identified as sub-inspector (SI) Afzal Hussain.

The victim went to the media first after being turned away by the police yesterday, and then she courted Chirang SP Pranjit Bora.

After the topic of conversation arose and quickly spread like wildfire, the Chirang SP made the decision to suspend the Bengtol OC on Friday night with immediate effect.
