CM and FM inspect construction of new bridge over Brahmaputra

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made a joint inspection of the construction works of six lane extra dosed bridge over the Brahmaputra river on 7 October.

The bridge will be connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati near Sonaram High School field in the city and reviewed its progress.

During the visit of the Chief Minister and the Union Finance Minister to the construction site, Commissioner and Special Secretary, PWD (Roads) Rajesh Kemprai and Chief Engineer, PWD (Externally aided Projects) Paban Terang made detailed presentation on the construction of the bridge and apprised them about the progress of the project.

Finance Minister of the Government of Assam Ajanta Neog was also present during the inspection.

The project will be funded by New Development Bank, this 8.4 km long extra dosed bridge will be the first of its kind in the North East and is being executed by State PWD (Roads) with a project cost of Rs. 2608 crore.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of the bridge on February 9, 2019 and the bridge is expected to be complete by August 2023. This iconic bridge, once completed will significantly ease out traffic congestion and help in expanding the city towards north bank, besides facilitating safe and smooth movement of people across the river. The bridge will also reduce travel time between Guwahati and North Guwahati.
