CM Channi, Cong’s Mansa candidate Sidhu Moosewala booked for violating poll
Guwahati: Ahead of the Punjab Assembly Election, Chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Congress candidate Shubhdeep Singh also known as Sidhu Moosewala were booked for allegedly breaking the poll code in Mansa district on Friday.
According to reports, both were discovered canvassing after the deadline of 6 p.m.
Following the incident, a case was filed at City-1 Mansa police station under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (disobedience to direction properly proclaimed by public servant).
However, Channi arrived in Mansa on Friday evening for Moosewala’s door-to-door campaigning.
According to the first information report (FIR), Dr Vijay Singla of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) filed a complaint with election observer CK Yadav, alleging that Congress leaders violated the model code of conduct by canvassing after the campaigning period had ended.
Meanwhile, after a spot check by the flying squad team (FST), poll officials discovered that Channi was not a Mansa voter and had broken the poll code by campaigning in another constituency.
FIR further include that Moosewala was campaigning with more than 400 followers, which was above the legal limit.
It may be mentioned that the Assembly elections in Punjab has been scheduled to be held from 20 February.
