CM Sarma: Assam Govt To Fulfill Majority Of 1 Lakh Jobs By May

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on Wednesday that the state government will largely adhere to its pledge to create one lakh employment by the month of May.

Speaking today at an appointment letter distribution event of fishery and veterinary departments at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, the Assam CM said, “Within May, the Assam government will fulfill a significant portion of its promise of providing one lakh employment opportunities. Many vacant positions will be filled by May 10.”

Assam CM Sarma revealed the government’s plans in that regard, saying that it was seeking to fill an additional 20,000 positions across various departments. He said, “The Assam government is working on filling up another 20 thousand positions in the education and forest departments.”

The Assam CM promised that the nominations for these positions would be made quickly. Additionally, he encouraged those who received appointment letters for various positions in the Assam government’s veterinary, fishery, and industry departments today to report for duty starting the following day.

“We are trying to push the veterinary department in the right direction. At present, the department is not functioning in the required manner. Much of that has been due to a lack of new recruitments,” said the Assam CM.

He also asserted that veterinarians lack the motivation to carry out their responsibilities. “The veterinarians even in my constituency do not perform their responsibilities properly. They arrive for work at 12. They are always looking for excuses to get away from work,” Assam CM Sarma said.

The Chief Minister of Assam also exhorted the Commissioner Secretary to make strict hiring decisions. He also requested Atul Bora, the animal husbandry and veterinary minister for Assam, to assume leadership in this area.

Minister Atul Bora was requested to personally oversee everything by CM Sarma. In addition, he exhorted the other cabinet members to oversee the divisions that fall under their various ministries.

The Assam CM criticised the Commissioner Secretary of Assam’s Animal Husbandry Department, claiming that the department’s goal had not been achieved. Assam CM Sarma noted that no new veterinary facilities have been established in a while.

He said, “Around 600 veterinarians are sitting idle. If they are willing to work at their designated clinics, I will provide them with appointments.”

It should be mentioned that the Assam government today appointed people to a number of positions at a meeting in Guwahati. A total of 161 veterinarians were appointed today apart from 32 appointments in the fishery department, 13 appointments in the industry department, and four more appointments as public health technicians.
