Guwahati: Assam Police have arrested a college principal in the Bongaigaon district of Assam for embezzling student scholarship money
According to reports, the accused has been identified as Shahidul Islam, is the principal of CK College in Abhayapuri.
He was accused of stealing money intended for student scholarships under the Ishan Uday Scheme for 2017–18.
Islam, who was taken into custody while attending college, is being questioned by authorities.
Last month, five people including the principal were arrested in connection with the Barpeta district Ishan Uday Scholarship scam.
Several institutions in the state’s districts were the targets of a scam in which millions of rupees were stolen under the guise of the Ishan Uday Scholarship.
Ishan Uday Scholarship is a scheme where the union government grants the scholarship to meritorious students from minority communities.
