Congress leader Jairam Ramesh: PM Modi can only offer ‘election for confusion’ not solution
Guwahati: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on February 18 criticised the BJP government for allegedly making false promises regarding the state of Nagaland.
The Congress leader asserted that PM Modi’s campaign slogan for the 2018 Nagaland elections was “Election for Solution,” but after five years in power, the saffron party had failed to deliver any solutions and had instead accumulated a legacy of lofty claims and broken promises.
Further, Jairam argued that PM Modi can only deliver an “Election for Confusion” in the Nagaland election of 2023.
In a tweet, the senior leader wrote, “The PM’s slogan for the 2018 Nagaland polls was ‘Election for Solution’. Five years later, with NO solution along with a long list of broken promises and tall claims, the only thing the PM can offer for 2023 polls is the slogan ‘Election for Confusion’.”
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on February 16 remarked that it was now time for the Naga people to pause and reconsider the “bluff” that the NDPP-BJP combine had used against them.
Speaking to the media in Kohima, Ramesh said that the BJP-NDPP coalition government must be transparent about its goals for the Naga people before running for office.
He emphasised that neither the demand of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) or the Naga political issue were addressed in the 41-page BJP platform.
He claimed that although the ENPO delegation relaxed its August 16, 2022, resolve not to take part in any electoral process, Federal Home Minister Amit Shah’s promised travel to eastern Nagaland in January to meet with stakeholders to discuss the problem was never made. “What has kept the government and the home minister to walk the talk,” Ramesh asked.
