Congress MP Highlights Flood Erosion Crisis in Assam During Disaster Management Bill Review Meeting
Guwahati, 8th August: In a significant review meeting held in New Delhi to discuss the “Disaster Management Amendment Bill,” Congress MP Rakibul Hussain highlighted the ongoing issue of flood erosion in Assam. Hussain expressed his frustration with central authorities, accusing them of not fully understanding the severity of the destruction caused by the Brahmaputra River.
Hussain criticized the government’s lack of serious consideration for the reality and facts on the ground, arguing that this oversight has exacerbated the crisis. He emphasized the urgent need for the central government to recognize and address the devastating impact of erosion on Assam’s communities and infrastructure.
During the briefing, officials from the Central Disaster Management Department revealed that they had not received any reports from the Assam government concerning the erosion issue. This lack of communication has contributed to the inadequate response to the crisis, highlighting the need for better coordination between state and central authorities.
