Mirabai Chanu Narrowly Misses Podium at Paris Olympics, Finishes Fourth in Weightlifting
Sports Desk, 8th August: In a valiant effort marked by determination and resilience, Mirabai Chanu’s bid for a second consecutive Olympic medal came to a narrow end as she secured a fourth-place finish at the Paris Olympics weightlifting event. Chanu, who previously won a silver medal at the Tokyo Games, fell just one kilogram short of a podium spot, achieving an aggregate of 199 kg at the South Paris Arena.
Chanu had set her sights on a 200 kg-plus total to clinch a medal but faced significant challenges. A hip injury sustained at the Asian Games had sidelined her for four months, yet she managed to make a strong comeback in her preparation for the Olympics.
During the Clean and Jerk round, Chanu aimed for an initial target of 111 kg, an increase from her previous best of 107 kg. Despite failing her first attempt, she showcased her fighting spirit by successfully lifting 111 kg on her second try, matching her best performance in the snatch round. Her final attempt at 114 kg was unsuccessful, resulting in her fourth-place finish, just shy of an Olympic medal.
Chanu’s performance, characterized by perseverance and exceptional skill, drew admiration from fans and fellow athletes, even as she narrowly missed adding another Olympic medal to her illustrious career.
