Cops Arrest Accused In Gossaigaon Acid Attack

Guwahati: The prime accused in the acid assault on a senior Assam lawyer in Kokrajhar of Assam was arrested on Saturday night.

As per reports, the accused identified as Usman alias Bagha who is a resident of Mohkuma Goladangi village of Gossaigaon.

According to the police, he admitted to throwing acid on the lawyer, Abdus Samad Ahmed, in exchange for Rs. 18,000 in cash.

It was established that the accused had received cash from a family member of the victim in order to conduct the crime.

Last Friday, Ahmed, a native of Padmabil village, finished his official work at Gossaigaon Judicial Dandadhi Court and headed back home around 6 pm.

His residence was attacked by two unidentified attackers who then fled after throwing acid at him.

Following incident, he was immediately taken to RNB Civil Hospital and later referred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced treatment.

Ahmed speaks on behalf of the Gossaigaon Lawyers Association as a senior advocate.

The Gossaigaon Lawyers’ Association had urged that a thorough administrative investigation be conducted in order to take stern action against the perpetrator of this atrocity.
