Counterfeit Gold Trade Thriving in Assam’s Lakhimpur District

Guwahati, 16th August: Counterfeit gold trade has emerged as a concerning issue in Assam, particularly in the Lakhimpur district. Despite the efforts of renowned police officer Anand Mishra to crack down on such operations, counterfeit gold trading continues to flourish in the region.

Lakhimpur Police recently conducted operations in Bongalmora and Naoboicha, resulting in the arrest of a counterfeit gold trader named Miraj Ali from Number 1 Ahmedpur. During interrogation, Ali provided information that led to a raid in Mohghuli, Naoboicha.

At Nasim Uddin’s residence, police discovered a boat-shaped item and Rs 50,000 in cash. Subsequent testing revealed that the item was, in fact, counterfeit gold. The operations shed light on the persistent nature of this illegal trade in the region.
