National Desk, 17 June: Union Minister Amit Shah on Saturday made an aerial survey of Gujarat’s Kutch area which was damaged severely by Cyclone “Biparjoy. The Union Home Minister was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Shah also visited the injured individuals who were being treated at the Mandvi Civil Hospital and the Swami Narayan Temple of Bhuj to ensure that food supplies and other services being offered to the affected people.
The Union Home Minister is scheduled to address the media at 5 o’clock in Bhuj.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in a tweet said, “Deep Depression (Remnant of Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy) at 1130 hours IST of today, the 17th June, 2023 over Southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat about 70 km southeast of Barmer and 160 km southwest of Jodhpur. To weaken into a Depression during next 06 hours.”
An area 10 kilometres north of the Jakhau Port in Gujarat’s Kutch is where Cyclone Biparjoy which began in the Arabian Sea and stormed over the west coast of India made landfall on Thursday night.
After Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in coastal portions of the state on Thursday evening, 127 citizens were evacuated from Rupen Bandar Government Primary School and relocated to NDH School Dwarka by a total of six National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams.
According to NDRF, 82 men, 27 women and 15 children are among the evacuated people.
On the other hand, Gujarat government said on Friday that cash assistance would be provided to those affected by the cyclone in the amounts of Rs. 100 for adults and Rs. 60 for youngsters. People who have been evacuated to safer locations will be entitled for monetary doles for a maximum of five days, according to an official statement.
