Darren Sammy was called as ” Kallu” in IPL
Former West Indies captain Darren Sammy lost his cool on Saturday and took social media on storm as he learnt the meaning of a “kallu” a racist slur which was used for him and Sri Lanka’s all-rounder Thisara Perera by their teammates when he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL. The former windies T20 world cup- winning skipper said that he and Perera were subjected to chants in Hindi as ” kallu”.
Sammy further said he thought that the word “kallu” mean as a strong black man but now after learning the exact meaning he is fuming and posted about all the matter in Instagram. The former Windies skipper has been vocal about the killing of George Floyd and the ongoing protest in USA. Sammy has made an appeal to ICC and other cricket boards to support the fight against racism & social injustice.
