Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Condemns China’s Name Alterations in Arunachal Pradesh, Affirms India’s Sovereignty

Northeast Desk, 9th April: During a public rally in Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed concerns over China’s recent actions, specifically highlighting the alteration of names for 30 locations within Arunachal Pradesh, which were publicized on China’s official website. Singh emphasized that merely changing names would not alter ground realities or affect India’s sovereignty over the region.

Asserting India’s stance, Singh questioned whether renaming certain regions or provinces within China would result in them becoming part of India, drawing a parallel to China’s actions in Arunachal Pradesh. He reiterated that altering names would not impact India’s territorial integrity or sovereignty.

“China has changed the names of 30 places in Arunachal Pradesh and posted them on its website. I want to tell my neighbor that nothing will happen by changing names. If tomorrow we change the names of some provinces and states of China, will those areas become part of India?… We want to maintain good relations with our neighbors, but if someone tries to hurt India’s honor, then today India has the power to respond to it,” Minister Rajnath Singh stated firmly.

Singh reiterated India’s commitment to maintaining amicable relations with its neighbors but made it clear that any attempt to undermine India’s dignity or sovereignty would be met with a firm response.
