Guwahati: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit to Assam to attend a ceremony honouring the battle heroes of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War on April 23.
The state administration examined the program’s preparedness on Monday, said chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
According to the CM, an award ceremony will be organised on April 23 to honour the highest sacrifice of soldiers who fought in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, which will be graced by the presence of Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh.
Sarma further informed that he along with his Cabinet colleagues had gone over the preparations.
It needs to be noted that despite the fact that some officers and personnel from the region played a key part in the Bangladesh Liberation War, nothing is known about them. Thousands of Mukti Bahini independence fighters were trained and equipped by these officers to combat the Pakistani army.
