Delhi amid dog row: Bureaucrat Transferred To Ladakh, Wife To Arunachal

Guwahati: An IAS officer who used to walk his dog at a stadium in Delhi has been sent to Ladakh with immediate effect while his wife has been transferred to Arunachal Pradesh.

The move comes after various media outlets claimed that the government-run Thyagraj Stadium was being shuttered for sporting events earlier than usual so that a bureaucrat may walk his dog there.

According to a Home Ministry directive, a 1994-batch IAS official Sanjeev Khirwar has been transferred to Ladakh, while his wife has been transferred to Arunachal Pradesh.

Reports claimed that the Home Ministry had requested a report from the Delhi Chief Secretary on the news item about Mr Khirwar and his wife abusing amenities at Thyagraj Stadium.

The chief secretary submitted a report to the Home Government, prompting the ministry to order their relocation on Thursday evening.

Sanjeev Khirwar is the Principal Secretary (Revenue) in Delhi at the moment.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal decided that all state-run sports facilities be open till 10 pm for athletes.

“It has come to my attention that athletes are having difficulties due to the heat, and that stadiums close by 6 or 7 pm. We’ve issued orders that all sporting facilities remain open till 10 pm so that athletes can use them “Mr. Kejriwal said.

Following the incident, the Delhi government also ordered that the stadium be kept open for sports activities till 10 pm.
