Dibrugarh: 12 babies shifted after fire beaks out at AMCH

Guwahati: At least 12 newborn babies came dangerously near to death after a fire broke out On Wednesday in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH Paediatric)’s award in Dibrugarh.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 6:30 p.m., when a ventilator unit caught fire. The reason behind the fire is suspected to be an electrical short-circuit

AMCH Superintendent Prasanta Dihingia that a ventilator’s monitor in the paediatric ward caught fire, which was quickly extinguished by the staff using a fire extinguisher located in the room.

He added that “there were 12 kids on the ward aged between six months to ten years and there were no injuries. “All the children were shifted to another paediatric ward on the campus after the incident”, officials informed.

However, an investigation into the matter has already been initiated by the officials.
