Doctor attacked by unknown in Sikkim
Guwahati: A doctor from the SIR THUTOB NAMGYAL MEMORIAL (STNM) Hospital’s cardiology department was attacked by a “random individual” in Gangtok, Sikkim’s capital on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident took place at around 1 pm.
Aside from the doctor, the accused also stabbed a sanitary attendant.
Tshering Bhutia, 42, has been identified as the suspect.
The doctor’s condition is described as “critical.”
The doctor was identified as Dr. Sanjay Upreti.
The motive for the doctor’s assault has yet to be determined.
The accused, however, is thought to have been a patient or a relative of a patient in the past.
While attempting to save the doctor, the sanitary attendant, who was also stabbed by the accused, sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, the accused has been apprehended by Sikkim police, and an inquiry into the case has begun.
