Drug Peddler shot in Police encounter, sustains injuries
Guwahati: One suspected drug peddler was injured in police firing while trying to flee from the custody in Morigaon district of Assam on Thursday.
The injured drug peddler identified as Jeherul Islam who is a resident of Borthal Kachari Gaon Village of the district.
The incident took place at the Moirabari town of the district when the inmate tried to flee from the spot.
During interrogation, Islam divulged the location of his home where concealed heroin was kept. A police team took him to the spot. After reaching there, Islam tried to attack the policemen in order to escape. Police opened fire on his leg in retaliation.
As per the sources of MyNewsNE, Islam along two other persons were arrested with 390 grams of heroin in a joint operation by Lahrighat and Morigaon police on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Islam was immediately rushed to the Morigaon Civil Hospital and later shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for better treatment.
It needs to be noted that Islam reportedly had a criminal background with several reports against him lodged at various police stations.
