Drug Smuggler Injured During Police Firing in Assam’s Barpeta, 2 Held

Guwahati: Police opened fire on a drug smuggler leaving him with critical injuries at Mazgaon in the Barpeta district of Assam.

On Monday night, the police went to the location and started search operations after receiving prior information that indicated there were narcotics and weapons present in a person’s residence on the Barpeta Road.

During the search drive, a drug peddler identified as Bisa Miya tried to flee from the clutches of police.

The police then opened fire on Miya who then sustained bullet injuries in his right shoulder.

Bisa Miya is currently receiving medical care at the Barpeta Medical College. Miya was a resident of Bhalukigaon.

Meanwhile, two other smugglers identified as Inamul Haque and Bilal Hussain has also been arrested.

The police seized huge quantity of drugs including crystal meth which has a high market value from the three smuggler’s possession.

A case has been registered and the police have started searching for other suspects who may have been involved in the smuggling.
