EC to Announce Election Dates for 3 NE States Today
Guwahati: The dates for the 2019 assembly elections in three Northeastern states will be announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday.
Election dates will be issued for the assembly elections in Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland.
Over 13.9 lakh voters, including over 30,000 first-time voters were registered in Nagaland as of last Saturday, according to CEC Rajiv Kumar.
Teams from the ECI led by Rajiv Kumar, Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel visited Nagaland and Tripura last week to assess election readiness.
Meanwhile, on January 5, Tripura’s assembly election was ensured by launching the “Jan Vishwas Yatra” by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Amit Shah emphasised in his speech in North Tripura that the state’s approaching elections are intended to rid the state of Communists.
“The 2023 elections are intended to free Tripura from Communists. Earlier there used to be a certain cadre whose permission was required to do every day-to-day task, but now you cannot see the communist here anymore,” he stated.
