ECI Team To Arrive in Guwahati Today
Guwahati: Assam to welcome Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel for a public hearing on March 26.
The Election Commission of Guwahati will arrive at 5 pm today. And a three-member team of the Commission will spend the night at Hotel Radisson Blu.
ECI will initiate the delimitation exercise of Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies in Assam from today.
A team from ECI will be in Assam from March 26 to March 28. In order to get first-hand information and input on the ongoing delimitation process in Assam they will meet with all Deputy Commissioners, representatives of political parties, members of the public, members of civil society and representatives of other organisations during this time.
The ECI team will speak with representatives of political parties, the general public, civil society and social organisations on March 27 from 9 am to 12 pm. Individuals who are willing to meet with the ECI team should let the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam know about their willingness and submit any representations they may have for the ECI to consider.
The Ministry of Law & Justice has requested the Election Commission of India to carry out the delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies in Assam. The last delimitation of Assam’s constituencies was completed in 1976 by the then-Delimitation Commission in accordance with the requirements of the Delimitation Act, 1972, using census data from 1971.
