Female One-Horned Rhino Found Dead in Kaziranga National Park

Guwahati, 8th August: A female one-horned rhino was discovered deceased at the Kohora range of Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The carcass was located by forest rangers during their routine patrol along the banks of the Diphlu River near the Salmara forest area.

According to forest officials, the rhino’s death was attributed to old age, as there were no signs of foul play. The intact horn indicated that poaching was not the cause of death. The rhino’s carcass was found on the riverbank, leading to speculation that the animal might have died upstream and then floated down the stream to its present location in Salmara.

The circumstances surrounding the rhino’s death suggest that it was not accessible to carnivorous animals, preventing any scavenging activity. The incident underscores the natural cycle of life within the Kaziranga National Park and highlights the ongoing efforts to preserve and protect the diverse wildlife found in the region.
