Female Rhino Found Dead in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, Assam; Suspected Drowning

Guwahati, 5th September: In a tragic incident, the lifeless body of a female rhinoceros was discovered within the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam’s Morigaon on Tuesday morning.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the forest department suggests that the rhino may have died due to drowning.

The carcass of the rhinoceros was located near the Haduk Hanging Bridge within the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.

Forest department officials promptly arrived at the scene and retrieved the carcass.

It is important to note that due to the rising water levels of the Brahmaputra River, approximately 70 percent of the wildlife sanctuary had been submerged in floodwaters, potentially affecting the lives and habitats of the resident wildlife.
